About India

India is the seventh biggest country on the planet and the biggest country in Southern Asia. Bordering Pakistan, China, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh it is a country of great diversity in terms of languages, religions, landscapes and climate. Barren desert areas are contrasted by fertile land strips along the Ganges River and flat valleys rise up to the highest mountain range in the world – the Himalaya. The climate is subtropical in the north with temperatures as low as 10°C in January and as high as 40°C in May and tropical all year round in the south. One of the big highlight in India is the Taj Mahal mausoleum – with its perfect proportions and detailed artwork it has fascinated travellers since 1643. However, India’s rich culture and architecture is contrasted by a less glamorous side. Many rural communities are living in poverty without proper education and healthcare. The volunteer programs in India allow a chance to make a difference in India!
